Function, design, hidden complexity. To make a piece attractive at first glance, simple at second glance, and complex at third glance. I designed this table as double functional piece: coffee table/Japanese dinging table with an oriental motif for the top. This particular design raised some wood movement issues. To solve them, I used blind slide dovetails, which are very common in Japanese wood construction. This technique holds the piece together without glue and allows for wood expansion. The table is thus a knockdown piece made of 46 individual parts. |
